Using CHKDSK to Check Your System Files When Windows crashes or hangs on boot.
Do not do this proceedure if you think your hard disk is damged Call us. This is for simple crashes. If you think your Hard disk is damaged and you run this, you will probably destroy any chance we have of recovering your data.
Insert your Windows XP CD in order to boot Windows manually. if you have one. (How ever if you dont look for when it says starting windows just are you power on. Then quicly press the F8 key thjisw ill give you a menu. Select Safe mode with or with our network support.)
When given the Press any key to continue prompt, press any key on your keyboard.
When you see the welcome to setup screen. DO NOT under any circumstances reinstall Windows XP at this time. Instead, press R to access the Recovery Console.
A listing all of the operating systems on your computer will appear. Type in the number of the system you were using when the blue screen crashes started. Proably option one.
At this point, you will be prompted to enter your administrator password. (If you don't remember it, you'll have to bring your computer in to us) If you do remember it, type it in.
A screen with the prompt C:\WINDOWS> and a blinking cursor should appear.
Type in CHKDSK /R and press Enter. Make sure that you include a space between the 'K' and backslash.
Check Disk will take some time checking the integrity of your system files. possibly over an hour. When it's done, type Exit and hit Enter. (If it makes a lot of noise and is struggling hold down the power key till the machine turns off and let us have a look at it. )
Make sure that you select the option to boot normally as opposed to from CD when your computer restarts.
Using CHKDSK to Check Your System Files When Windows does Boot up.
Click start> then run> then type cmd> at the prompt type CHK DSK and hit enter.
follow further instructions as they appear.
When Check Disk finishes, restart your computer.
If you had any corrupted files, Check Disk should have corrected them. If you are still encountering blue screens call us.
